The Effect of Pregnancy Serum on Experimental Inflammation in the Rats

Abstract
This study was to investigate the effects of pregnancy serum on the carrageenaan-induced inflammation in the rats.
Rats received intraperitoneal injections of pooled serum obtained from pregnant female or normal adult and then experimental inflammation was induced by subcutaneous injection of carrageenan. The specimens were taken from inflammatory area at different intervals(12 hour, 1 day, 2 day) and were stained for H & E, alcian blue, S-glucuronidase and a-naphthyl acetate esterase.
The results obtained were as follows.
1. The acute inflammatory reaction was inhibited by pregnancy pooled serum but not inhibited by normal pooled serum.
2. The pregnancy pooled serum reduced the activities of P-glucuronidase and a-naphthyl acetate esterase in the inflammatory exudate.
From these results, it may be suggested that inhibitory effect of pregnancy serum on acute inflammation may be related to the stabilization of leukocyte lysosome.
